Having studied, reflected, and meditated on the three overarching qualities of mind presented by Rigdzin Shikpo, and using his three comprehensive or all-embracing qualities (openness, clarity, sensitivity) as a framework, I offer the following synthesis of other related qualities of the mind — in an attempt to deepen understanding of the nature of mind, and also of Buddhahood.
OPENNESS | CLARITY | SENSITIVITY |
Limitlessness | Consciousness | Responsiveness |
Spaciousness | Cognisance | Well-being |
Boundlessness | Discernment | Mirror-like wisdom |
Vastness | Knowing | All-accomplishing wisdom |
Transparency | Wakefulness | All-encompassing wisdom |
Invisibility | Alertness | Wisdom of discernment |
Non-materiality | Understanding | Wisdom of equality |
No birth/no death | Intelligence | Love |
No being/no non-being | Mindfulness | Compassion |
No coming/no going | Attentiveness | Joy |
No same/no different | Carefulness | Equanimity |
Complete openness | Natural perfection | Absolute spontaneity |
Awareness | Wisdom | Love and compassion |

Buddhism is concerned with becoming aware of and realizing with increasing depth the nature of mind, which is in all beings and which transcends anything that we could grasp and own. It is the very nature of experience itself and in the end, experience is all we have. …
The nature of mind is experienced in terms of three inseparable qualities: [1] openness (which could also be called spaciousness), [2] clarity (which could also be called awareness) and [3] sensitivity (which could also be called responsiveness or well-being).
